NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - A New Britain police officer who was run over and dragged by a stolen car in a hit-and-run last month is back home recovering.

Officer Brett Morgan left a medical center in Hartford Thursday. He underwent nine hours of surgery and other medical procedures after the incident on Jan. 19 and will continue to receive out-patient treatment. It’s not clear when he’ll able to return to the force.

Police say Morgan was investigating a stolen car report when the car’s driver sped toward him. The car struck Morgan, ran over him and dragged him nearly 100 feet.

A New Britain man, 19-year-old Jaheem Snype, was arrested in Vermont three days later. He’s detained on $1 million bail on attempted murder and assault charges. He hasn’t entered a plea.
