Montana Lt. Gov. John Walsh, a Democrat, will be tapped to fill the seat that Sen. Max Baucus is leaving to be U.S. Ambassador to China, Politico reported.

Mr. Walsh was already running for Mr. Baucus’ seat.

The Senate voted 96-0 this week to confirm the 72-year-old Baucus as ambassador to Beijing.
