RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s communications director is moving to a new post.

McCrory’s office announced Friday that communications director Kim Genardo is going to the state Department of Commerce as director of strategic and economic development communications. Her new job begins on Feb. 17.

Former communications director Chris Walker left state government in February 2013 after serving just three months. At the time, he said he would be returning to Tennessee, where his family remained.

Genardo succeeded Walker later that month.

Deputy communications director Ricky Diaz left to become communications chief for the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. Diaz left that post last month.

The governor’s office said Josh Ellis will succeed Genardo. Ellis is currently deputy secretary for communications and external affairs in the Commerce Department.
