KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A former Flathead County sheriff’s office employee has been given a 10-year suspended sentence for embezzling more than $90,000 from the sheriff’s office employees association.

The Daily Inter Lake reports (https://bit.ly/1eHYUko) that 36-year-old Nicole Fister of Kalispell received the sentence Friday in District Court in Kalispell.

At the sentencing, Fister provided a check for $9,150 toward repaying the $90,000 and apologized for the theft.

Fister’s attorney says Fister and her husband, a deputy with the sheriff’s office, sold belongings to come up with the money.

Flathead County Attorney Ed Corrigan asked that Fister be given five years in prison and five years of probation.

But Fister’s attorney argued for a suspended sentence, citing Fister’s remorse and her initial payment that was more than 10 percent of the total restitution.
