BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A 24-year-old Boise man who pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for accidentally shooting his cousin has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

The Idaho Statesman reports (https://bit.ly/1eI4HXe) that Derick Lee Sedivy received the sentence Friday in 4th District Court.

Sedivy pleaded guilty in December in the death of 20-year-old Austin Tyler Blankenburg of Kuna. Blankenburg was shot in the head on May 10 and died early the next day.

Police determined the shooting was unintentional and said alcohol was a factor.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of use of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

Judge Patrick Owen opted not to impose probation.
