EAST ALTON, Ill. (AP) - Several fire departments responded when part of an ammunition plant went up in flames in southern Illinois.

No one was injured during the Sunday morning blaze at Winchester Ammunition Plant in East Alton.

Fire officials say the fire happened at a maintenance building. East Alton Fire Chief Randy Nelson says firefighters arrived to find “heavy smoke and fire.” Nelson says the community isn’t in any danger because the plant is in an isolated area.

As many as seven local fire departments were called to help put out the fire.

The cause is under investigation.
