SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Officials in San Antonio are investigating the death of a man held at the Bexar County Jail one day after he returned there.

The San Antonio Express-News reports (https://bit.ly/1iCDNRi ) that the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says an initial investigation points to suicide, but the medical examiner will make the final determination.

A correctional officer found 25-year-old Nathaniel Gamez unresponsive Friday evening, about 30 minutes after he had last been seen alert and seemingly fine. Gamez was being held in segregation away from the jail’s general population.

Gamez had an extensive criminal history including drug and assault convictions. He was back in the jail for an alleged assault on a family member.
