MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Meridian Community College will offer a scholarship program for first-responders in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

WTOK-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1g3sQY5 ) the program is housed within the college’s division of emergency service technology and allows police and firefighters who have accumulated large amounts of training to convert it into college credit toward a degree.

The new program goes into effect for the summer semester.

Fees and tuition can be waived for some classes under the program, says Benjamin Warren, division chairman of emergency service technology at the college.
