CHICAGO (AP) - A federal judge has added 30 additional months to the time a former Chicago alderman will spend in prison for corruption.
Ambrosio Medrano was sentenced last week to 10 1/2 years in prison for scheming to accept kickbacks. The conviction Medrano was sentenced for Monday involved him paying a bribe to hide an illegal deal to win Los Angeles County medical contracts.
In sentencing the 60-year-old Medrano, U.S. District Judge John Tharp said the politician had pulled off an “unprecedented … corruption trifecta.”
Tharp rejected arguments by Medrano’s defense attorney that the extra time would be like a “death sentence.”
Medrano once boasted he wanted to be a “pig” who feasted on government contracts. He apologized Monday to the court, his family and the community he once represented.
