PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 34-year-old man has been ordered to serve 35 years in prison after pleading no contest to fatally beating a Providence woman in her home last year.

The Providence Journal reported Tuesday that 34-year-old Douglas White pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and larceny over $500 in Providence Superior Court.

Authorities say he assaulted 54-year-old Donna Oliver at her home in 2012. The paper reported he left her body in a closet and stole her flat-screen television.

Oliver’s sister attended and pointed at White in court, calling him an evil person who deserved to spend his whole life in prison.

State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said White’s conviction won’t bring Oliver back but that he hoped her loved ones found some comfort in it.
