STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) - Stratford officials have approved a $4.1 million settlement of a lawsuit filed by the family of a 13-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a town dump truck in 2008.

The Connecticut Post reports (https://bit.ly/1lZnqAy ) the Town Council approved the settlement with Carlos Prada’s family Monday.

Carlos was an eighth-grader at Flood Intermediate School. He was crossing East Main Street in a crosswalk to get to his bus stop when he was run over by the dump truck towing a wood chipper.

The truck driver, Robert Maloy of Orange, told police he never saw the boy. Police later found the truck’s brake system was deficient and Maloy didn’t have the proper license to drive the truck. Maloy was cited for motor vehicle violations but not arrested for the accident.
