PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) - A 60-year-old Port Angeles, Wash., man has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison for murdering a neighbor during a violent argument.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (https://is.gd/L1g9cS ) that a Clallam County jury earlier rejected Bobby Smith’s claim of self-defense in the June 20, 2011, fatal shooting of 63-year-old Robert Fowler.

Smith was sentenced Tuesday on his second-degree murder conviction.

Smith contended Fowler had threatened him with a knife and was on the verge of hurting Smith’s daughter. The argument took place in the living room of Smith’s home.

Superior Court Judge George Wood noted that Smith had testified he “methodically” fired two bullets into Fowler’s head as Fowler lay on Smith’s living room floor.
