NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the emergency repairs on the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock on the Industrial Canal in New Orleans and the lock is now open for navigation.

On Jan. 3, the 91-year-old bull gear on the riverside miter gate fractured, leaving the gate inoperable. Because of the age of the components, all original to the lock, bushings for the gear required fabrication by Boland Marine and Industrial of New Orleans.

The Corps had a crew of welders, machinists, crane operators, deckhands and foremen working around the clock to restore the lock to service as soon as possible. It reopened Tuesday afternoon.
