MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - An 18-year-old Massachusetts man has been indicted in the October hit-and-run death of a bicyclist.

The Plymouth County district attorney’s office announced Wednesday that Eric Megna of Middleborough is charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene after causing death.

Megna pleaded not guilty Nov. in district court to leaving the scene of a fatal accident and has been free on $10,000 bail. He is to be arraigned on the new charges in Brockton Superior Court Jan. 22.

Fifty-eight-year-old Michael Dutra was struck Oct. 11 while riding to a grocery store in Middleborough.

Prosecutors said Megna fled to his family’s New Hampshire vacation home and later explained damage to his car by saying he hit a deer.

Megna’s lawyer has said his client wasn’t present when Dutra was killed and the prosecution’s timeline doesn’t add up.
