LAS VEGAS (AP) - Several dozen people are protesting outside a Las Vegas country club where House Speaker John Boehner was set to give a fundraising speech.

Union, Democratic and pro-immigration groups drummed up support for the Friday rally. Proceeds from the $1,000-per-plate event inside the club benefit Boehner’s fellow Republican, Rep. Joe Heck of Nevada.

Donors who paid more could also attend a 30-minute round table talk before the lunch.

Protesters criticize Boehner for failing to prevent a government shutdown and allowing extended unemployment benefits to expire.

Heck’s Democratic opponent, Erin Bilbray, issued a statement saying Heck and Boehner are too busy trying to keep their jobs to help others without jobs.

Heck’s campaign told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that was spin, pointing to a Bilbray fundraiser featuring former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
