KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Firefighters are crediting a man with saving the lives of a woman and her 5-year-old son when he spotted a house fire while driving in to Kalispell.

Chris Irlbeck tells the Daily Inter Lake (https://bit.ly/1mb02NC ) he noticed a glow behind the house near Smith Lake at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

The back of the house was on fire. Irlbeck said he knocked on the back door and the front door and went inside and yelled to see if anyone was home.

He finally heard a woman yelling. He found her, she grabbed her son and they all got out of the house.

Smith Valley Fire Chief D.C. Hass says the woman and her son were sleeping and if Irlbeck hadn’t stopped “it would be a very different story right now.”
