OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) - The State University of New York at Oswego has received a $7.5 million donation from the estate of a couple who operated a central New York business.

SUNY Oswego officials announced Friday that the gift is the largest single donation in the 153-year-old history of the college.

The donation from the estate of Nunzio and Lorraine Marano, of Scriba (SKREYE’-buh), will establish an endowment used primarily to fund scholarships.

Nick Morano died in 2002. He owned Marano Vacuum Cooling and Sales in Scriba, just east of Oswego.

SUNY Oswego officials say Lorraine Marano earned degrees from three colleges and felt strongly about supporting the local school. She died last October at age 67.
