16-year-old boy shot in Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - Police are investigating after a 16-year-old boy showed up at Lowell General Hospital with gunshot wounds to both legs.

The boy showed up at the hospital after police got 911 calls just before 3 p.m. Monday reporting shots fired near East Merrimack and Nesmith streets.

Capt. Kelly Richardson tells The Sun of Lowell (https://bit.ly/1ePArHv ) that the boy’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Richardson said police do not believe the shooting was random and neighbors should not be in fear.

There was no word on suspects or arrests.

No names were released.
