DETROIT (AP) - A man whose 7-year-old daughter was killed by Detroit police is on trial for a homicide that preceded the fatal raid four years ago.

Police were looking for a suspect when an officer’s gun went off, striking Aiyana Stanley-Jones as she slept on a couch in May 2010.

Her father Charles Jones is charged with providing a gun that was used in the shooting of 17-year-old Je’Rean Blake, who was killed outside a store. Chauncey Owens is charged with pulling the trigger.

Jury selection began Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Meanwhile, Aiyana’s death still is unresolved. Officer Joseph Weekley is back in court in February, months after a jury couldn’t reach a verdict in his involuntary manslaughter trial.
