A three-car crash in Silver Spring has closed three lanes on the Outer Loop of Beltway at Georgia Avenue on Tuesday afternoon and caused traffic jams on the Inner Loop, according to police.

The crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. just before Georgia Avenue and was one of several weather-related traffic issues reported around the area as snowfall accelerated late Tuesday morning and into the afternoon. Three to four people were transported to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, said Pfc. John McDonough with the Maryland State Police.

The three left lanes of the Outer Loop of Interstate 495 are closed while the three cars involved in the crash were towed.

Police suspect weather and speed may have been causes in the crash, Pfc. McDonough said.

“We’re warning all the people to slow down,” he said.
