ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - Authorities say a 30-year veteran of the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, who also served his community as a Baptist pastor, drowned while fishing in a pond north of St. Francisville.

Chief Deputy Randy Metz tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1drGEH6 ) 55-year-old Ernest James was fishing with a friend when their boat overturned around noon Friday.

Metz says deputies found James’ body about 30 minutes after arriving at the scene.

He says the death remains under investigation.

James served as pastor of the Sherobee Missionary Baptist Church.
