HARTLAND, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a one-car crash on a western New York road has claimed the life of the person who was driving the vehicle.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office say emergency dispatchers received a 911 call around 10 p.m. Tuesday reporting an accident in the rural town of Hartland, 30 miles northeast of Buffalo.

Deputies say the vehicle was traveling east on Ridge Road when it went off the south shoulder and hit a tree in a front yard before coming to a rest.

The driver was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport and shortly after was pronounced dead.

The driver’s name is being withheld pending the notification of family.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
