Convicted felon Bernard Madoff is back in federal prison after being hospitalized for a heart attack last month, CNBC reported Wednesday.

Madoff, 75, is said to be suffering from stage-four kidney disease but is not currently receiving dialysis, the report said.

Madoff is serving a 150-year federal prison sentence in North Carolina for defrauding customers as part of a $17 billion Ponzi scheme that landed him behind bars in 2009.

He confirmed the details of his health in an email to CNBC.

“Madoff says he was hospitalized last month at Duke University Medical Center and has since been returned to the medium security federal prison in nearby Butner, N.C.,” the business channel reported.
