PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a school bus slammed into a roadside wall and the driver has died at a Phoenix hospital.

Phoenix police say a 14-year-old boy and an adult school assistant also were aboard the bus but both escaped injury in the accident about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Helicopter news video shows the bus sitting perpendicular to a street near an intersection and lodged partly through the masonry wall.

Police have identified the bus driver as 56-year-old Lawrence Joseph Plante.

They say the cause of death isn’t immediately clear. But Phoenix Fire Department officials say it appears the man suffered some sort of medical issue.

The bus is operated by the Deer Valley School District.
