ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say a suspect has been hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by an officer who was serving a search warrant.

Department spokesman John Chafee says the suspect was shot at least one time Thursday afternoon and was taken to Grady Hospital in critical condition. Chafee says officers were responding to a house in southwest Atlanta when they were confronted by a person carrying a weapon.

Chafee says the suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene and officers found drugs inside the house.

The incident is under investigation and police say charges are pending. No officers were injured and the suspect’s identity has not been released.
