WHITEHALL, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 21-year-old man is recovering in an upstate New York hospital after spending hours lying unconscious on the ice of Lake Champlain when his all-terrain vehicle crashed.

State police tell The Post-Star of Glens Falls (https://bit.ly/1f8TL4M ) that Jake Rovelli of Whitehall was riding his ATV near his hometown on the lake’s South Bay when he crashed around midnight Saturday while trying to drive up a shoreline embankment.

Troopers say he was thrown about 60 feet back onto the frozen lake. Police say he was knocked unconscious and didn’t wake up until after dawn Sunday.

With nobody nearby, Rovelli crawled about a quarter-mile to some ice fishermen, who called for help around 10 a.m.

Rovelli suffered a broken leg and other injuries. He’s in fair condition at an Albany hospital.
