ROUND LAKE PARK, Ill. (AP) - A father and daughter have been killed in suburban Chicago when a Metra commuter train struck their vehicle.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1jqLxZd) the victims in the Wednesday accident were a 36-year-old Round Lake Beach man and his 7-year-old daughter. Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd says identities of the victims haven’t been confirmed.

Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko says a preliminary report shows the man’s vehicle was heading west on Route 134 when it tried to drive around a railroad crossing gate.

Filenko says police are investigating if the gates were working at the time of the accident.

Metra spokesman Tom Miller said the train was traveling about 60 mph on its way to the Round Lake station at the time of the accident.
