LAKEVIEW, Ore. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a Lakeview man who died while in police custody.

State police Lt. Gregg Hastings says two troopers arrested the convicted felon in a grocery store parking lot after finding him with a knife and a pipe containing methamphetamine.

Hastings says the handcuffed man collapsed shortly after midnight Thursday as the troopers walked him toward the Lake County Jail.

He died 30 minutes later at Lake District Hospital.

The man’s name has yet to be released, but Hastings says he was 44 years old. An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday.

Lakeview is in south-central Oregon, near the California and Nevada state lines.
