RENO, Nev. (AP) - Friends and family members of a 25-year-old sailor from Truckee, Calif., killed in a Navy helicopter crash off the coast of Virginia are planning a celebration of this life this weekend.

Petty Officer, Third Class Brian Collins died shortly after his rescue from the wreckage on Jan. 8.

His remains were flown Wednesday to Reno-Tahoe International Airport, where dozens of supporters from the Blue Star Mothers and the Patriot Guard gathered to welcome his family.

His mother, Hollee Collins, told KTVN-TV (https://tinyurl.com/kayt295 ) it’s a difficult time for the family and they appreciate the support. His sister, Danielle Helm, says he was the best brother anyone could have and cared about everyone.

Saturday’s celebration is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Truckee High School, where Collins graduated in 2007.
