SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (AP) - Two people have died after two vehicles collided near Southern Pines.

Authorities say one of the vehicles was traveling the wrong lane when the wreck happened late Wednesday night along U.S. 1.

State troopers are investigating the accident in which 36-year-old Tyrell Abbott of Alston, Texas, was driving his SUV in the wrong lane of the highway. His vehicle collided with a sedan operated by 20-year-old Jasmine Wicker of Sanford.

Both drivers were killed. No one else was in the vehicles.

Authorities are trying to determine why Abbott was driving in the wrong direction.
