CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - Police say seven students in northern New Jersey who were dismissed early because of a snowstorm attacked a motorist, leaving his face battered.

Police say it started when the boys walked in the middle of traffic after leaving Clifton High School. Police say one of the teens was apparently upset with the 23-year-old driver and punched his vehicle on Tuesday.

Police Sgt. Robert Bracken tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1dAy9tn ) newspaper a teen lunged at the driver after he got out of his vehicle to ask why one of them had hit it.

Bracken says six teens punched and kicked the man while he restrained the boy until the others fled. The driver sustained broken facial bones and a broken eye socket.

The teens are charged as juveniles with aggravated assault.
