CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Clovis officials say there’s been a recent spate of suspicious fires in the eastern New Mexico city.

Clovis Fire Department Lt. Rick Qualls says the latest is a home fire Wednesday. He says it’s suspicious because the home was unoccupied and utilities weren’t connected.

The Clovis News Journal (https://bit.ly/19S3pZC ) reports there has been three other suspicious fires in Clovis since Saturday.

Qualls says evidence is being submitted to state crime labs, and Police Capt. Patrick Whitney says police are following leads in their ongoing investigation.

Whitney says police are checking a database for people with prior arson charges, collecting evidence from fire scenes and conducting neighborhood interviews for possible witnesses.
