PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The former town manager of Westerly is joining the administration of Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

Chafee announced Friday that Steven Hartford will serve as a special adviser in policy and legislative affairs. The job was held by Kenny Alston, who will become Chafee’s director of operations.

Hartford served as town manager from 2009 until his resignation last year. Hartford, an attorney, had previously worked as Westerly’s town solicitor.

Hartford will make $110,000 in his new position.
