GREENBRIER, Tenn. (AP) - The mayor of Greenbrier has pleaded guilty to official misconduct after he was accused of stealing $60,000 from the Toys for Tots charity he founded.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped theft charges against Billy Wilson. However, he was ordered to pay $30,000 in restitution at Friday’s hearing, with the money going to “Robertson County kids.”

According to court documents, Wilson was sentenced to a year of supervised probation and ordered to immediately resign from his post as mayor. He is not allowed to hold office or go about City Hall, the fire department, police department or city garage during his year on probation.

Wilson still has supporters in Greenbrier. Many in the town of 6,500 say Wilson has always been quick to help anyone there in need.
