HOUSTON (AP) - Police say a Houston man has been charged with killing his mother who died after the pair physically fought and he never sought help to possibly save her.

Houston police say 37-year-old Alexander Joseph Lewis Jr. was being held Friday without bond on a murder charge.

The body of 64-year-old Bernice Willis Lewis was discovered Thursday by officers who were asked to check on her. Police didn’t immediately say who made the request. Her son was arrested at the scene.

Authorities believe the pair fought last Saturday and he remained at the home and didn’t get help for his mother. Investigators did not say when they believe the woman died, a possible cause of death or what led to the argument.

Online jail records don’t list an attorney for Lewis.
