SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Rev. Erik Richtsteig says a man who was shot in the head by his son-in-law during a Father’s Day Mass in Ogden is physically recovered but that he and the rest of the congregation remain scarred by the incident.

Richtsteig spoke Thursday after sentencing was delayed for 36-year-old Charles Richard Jennings Jr., who has pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder. Richtsteig says the victim, 66-year-old James Evans, is back at work doing well physically.

But the priest said he’s still angry at Jennings Jr. for “desecrating” the church. Richtsteig said it’s difficult to pray for Jennings even though he knows he must do it daily.

Jennings‘ attorney has said that Jennings was having a psychotic episode the day of the shooting.

His sentencing has been rescheduled for Feb. 20.
