KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - A grand jury has handed up an indictment against a 20-year-old Hudson Valley man accused of tying up a woman and beating her repeatedly while in the presence of a child.

Local media outlets report that Quashawn Thomas of Kingston is facing several charges, including assault, imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child for the November attack.

Kingston police say Thomas bound and gagged the woman, hit her in the head with a glass vase and burned her with a hot knife, some of which happened in the presence of a 3-year-old child.

Despite a threat from Thomas, police say the woman eventually escaped, ran to a neighbor’s house and called police.

Officials say the victim had an order of protection against Thomas.
