SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say two dogs trapped in a Utah house fire Wednesday are sick from smoke and heat but are on the mend.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman said a blaze ignited in the kitchen of an Ogden home Wednesday evening.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1faq57m ) Ogden firefighters and others from Northview Fire Agency doused the flames, then searched inside for the two dogs.

Emergency workers moved the pets into an ambulance and gave them doggie oxygen masks. One canine was sent to a local veterinarian for treatment from smoke inhalation. Police later said both dogs are doing well.

The Wednesday blaze caused $10,000 in damage to the kitchen but the house is still standing.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
