SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah’s unemployment rate continued to drop last month when it fell to 4.1 percent, the lowest it’s been since late 2008.

Utah’s jobless rate has remained below 5 percent since March 2013.

The Department of Workforce Services reported Friday that Utah’s rate remains well below the national unemployment rate at 6.7 percent in December.

The nationwide unemployment dropped from 7 percent because about 350,000 unemployed workers left the workforce.

Despite Utah’s falling rate, DWS says December marked the fifth month in a row where Utah’s job growth was below average.

Officials say Utah added 22,500 nonfarm jobs to the state economy last month as compared to December 2013.
