MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - A southern New Jersey man who fatally shook a friend’s infant son has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison.

Atlantic County prosecutors say Daquan Davis must serve a little more than 10 years before he becomes eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Friday. He had pleaded guilty last August to aggravated manslaughter.

Prosecutors say the 20-year-old Atlantic City man was caring for the 6-month-old boy while the child’s mother was at work in September 2012. When she returned home and found the boy was unresponsive, she called 911.

The child was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities have said the boy died from acute cerebral spinal trauma.

Davis said he shook the baby after becoming frustrated because it would not stop crying.
