NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - New Haven police say a 27-year-old baby sitter has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 19-month-old boy.

Police said Kinjal Patel of New Haven was charged with manslaughter and risk of injury to a child. She was being held on $1 million bond.

Police say Patel told detectives she was babysitting the child on Jan. 16 when she became angry with the boy and forced him to the floor, causing him to strike his head. Police say Patel said the child began to cry and convulse and she called the boy’s father, who returned home and took him to the hospital.

Police say the boy had a severely fractured skull and died on Jan. 19. The medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide caused by blunt force.

A message left with a public defender was not immediately returned.
