PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A veteran engineer at the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has been appointed chief of groundwater and wetland protection.

Brian Moore will oversee environmental permitting and water quality protection in the groundwater and wetland protection sections of the Office of Water Resources. He has worked as a supervising sanitary engineer in the water resources office for 22 years.

He will direct permitting for freshwater wetlands, groundwater discharge and onsite wastewater treatment systems. He will continue to oversee the office’s alternative technology approval program and licensing for onsite wastewater treatment designers and installers.

Director Janet Coit calls Moore a problem-solver who has demonstrated a commitment to the protection of Narragansett Bay, coastal ponds and watersheds.
