LITTLE FALLS, N.J. (AP) - No serious injuries were reported in a chain-reaction crash involving 12 cars on a northern New Jersey highway.

Authorities tell The Record (https://bit.ly/1ebF94u) that the crash occurred during the Monday morning commute on Route 46 East in Little Falls. They say it appears that a car stopped short due to slowing traffic and was rear-ended by another car, which was also hit from behind. Several other collisions involving other vehicles quickly ensued.

Many of the vehicles were moving at about 45 to 50 miles an hour and may have been following too closely for the travel conditions. Authorities said the pileup also may have caused two other accidents in the area.

One person was treated at the scene for minor injuries, but refused to go to the hospital.
