PENN HILLS, Pa. (AP) - Police say than an officer fatally shot a man in a Pittsburgh suburb after he pointed a rifle at them.

Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt says that officers responded to the home of 56-year-old Charles Hull after his girlfriend called 911 just after 6 a.m. Monday.

After the woman escaped the house Hull reportedly stepped outside and pointed a rifle at an unidentified officer. Moffatt says the officer told Hull to drop the weapon, and fired three shots when he didn’t.

The officer will be placed on administrative leave, which is usual policy in such cases, and the Allegheny County district attorney’s office will review the case.
