CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities are looking for an inmate who they say failed to return from a work release assignment in eastern Iowa.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says 57-year-old Todd Thomas Thomassen was officially released Sunday. He was expected to be back at the county jail by the end of the day but he never showed up.

The court-ordered work release program allows inmates to have a job while serving at the Linn County Correctional Center.

Thomassen was serving time in connection with a drunken driving offense and a driving while barred offense.
