PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A man who flagged down a Portland police officer to report he was robbed has been arrested on an accusation that he committed a robbery only minutes beforehand.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says officers responded to a report that a man robbed Dutch Brothers Coffee in southeast Portland and was last seen running down a street.

Police searched the area late Sunday, but did not find anyone matching the suspect’s description.

Then 23-year-old Matthew Stockwell flagged down an officer to say he had been robbed.

Simpson says the officer noticed that Stockwell matched the description of the Dutch Brothers robbery suspect. He arrested Stockwell after further investigation.

Stockwell was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a robbery charge.
