LAS VEGAS (AP) - A lawyer for an embattled Las Vegas-area Family Court judge told a state disciplinary panel that his client won’t seek re-election after all.

Judge Steven Jones is in a Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline hearing Monday with the panel considering his punishment for presiding over cases handled by a prosecutor he was dating.

His lawyer, James J. Jimmerson, tells the discipline panel that Jones will withdraw from the race tomorrow or Wednesday.

Jones filed Jan. 14 for another six-year term on the Clark County District Court bench, just three weeks after the commission found he committed misconduct.

Jones faces separate federal criminal fraud charges that got him suspended with pay in November 2012 amid accusations he used the power of his office to boost a $3 million investment fraud scheme.
