YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Police are warning Yonkers residents about thieves posing as water department employees to get into their homes.

Police say there have been three recent incidents reported. The criminals tend to target elderly people.

The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1iDmNgb ) says Yonkers is in the process of upgrading water meters. But residents get a letter requesting an appointment.

If someone shows up under suspicious circumstances, residents are urged to call the Yonkers Police Department at 914-377-7900 or the water department at 377-6765.
