VERNAL, Utah (AP) - A Vernal real estate broker has been stripped of his license by state regulators for forging termite inspection records for home buyers.

The Utah Real Estate Commission also fined Kyle David Ashworth $75,000 earlier this month, according to The Deseret News (https://bit.ly/1dJblHH ).

Court records show Ashworth was given a month in jail and probation in November after taking a plea bargain. The 31-year-old defendant was released Dec. 14.

His attorney, Stephen Howard, has said Kyle regrets causing the trouble. The case was investigated by Vernal police together with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Ashworth was named Coldwell Banker’s top Utah sales agent in 2012. He’s also received the Presidential Award from the Uintah Basin Board of Realtors. He can re-apply for his license in five years.
