LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Homicide detectives are investigating the discovery of a body inside a burned RV in Long Beach.

Officer Marlene Arona says police smelled smoke just early Tuesday and found the motor home burning in an alley behind an abandoned business.

The officers managed to put out the flames using fire extinguishers.

Arona says when firefighters arrived they discovered the body of an adult inside.

Coroner’s officials will attempt to identify the victim and determine the cause of death.

Neighbors tell KABC-TV that a man who lived in the RV often walked his dog in the area.

Investigators are looking for surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
